Punch Brothers Make Nostalgic Recording

Writer: Bridget BuckleyBridget Buckley

Punch Brothers recorded “Rye Whiskey” onto an Edison style cylinder backstage at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville for The Center of Popular Music. The crinkle sound of the recording blends nicely with Punch Brother’s instruments and harmony harkening back to a time before radio. Maybe the cylinder will be the next “cassette tape” craze of nostalgic music fare? Highly doubtful, but the result for “Rye Whiskey” is timeless.
